Haunted Maxwell's, Gerhard of The Dalloways, and the lovely dark angels of post-punk grunge: Three Chord Whore - By N.L. Belardes

If you haven’t read any of Gerhard Enn’s Barfly style of writing, you need to read his Bukowski-esque prosody illuminating dark Bakersfield nights in his latest blog titled, ‘Cocktails, Ghosts and Three Chord Whore’. We’re fortunate in the N.L. Belardes blog world to have such a talented and professional writer, a true student of masters in creative writing, taught by some of the leading literary minds in an enclave just a bit to the north of us in the San Joaquin Valley.

What a fascinating evening to happen into Maxwell’s haunted alley rooms: that old Swing Café of yesteryear where elbows once swung wildly on the dance floor nearly ten years ago to the sounds of rockabilly and swing. We sat at the bar and talked of my latest reports of the Lords happenings, that is, my source material which I believe the good people in the valley should get a bit of a taste of such dark tidings. Headlong into our conversation who would happen to come inside the bar but Shantell and the rest of those lovely dark angels of post punk-grunge,
Three Chord Whore. Those tough-minded gals walked headlong into a most creepy conversation on Bakersfield’s dark underbelly. Oh, I’m getting chills…!

So it was to be another meeting of the bands. And this artist is just a meek nimble voice echoing what Three Chord Whore and the Dalloways are all about: a rising music scene in Bakersfield, where bands can get together and share drinks and talk of upcoming shows. Three Chord Whore is playing tonight at Gigantic with a host of other bands. Of course I will be at the Thursday Night War to see that Irish frontman, Kenny of the St. Patty’s Day Filthies as he and the rest of the band shocks the audience with a few Filthy surprises. But don’t let that stop you, after the Battle of the Bands I’m sure there will still be music playing at Gigantic.

The Dalloways have set up a mega-show with Norfolk and
Johnny Come Lately(their 6 year anniversary show) on April 16th at Narducci’s, the first all-ages show ever to be performed there. I’m not saying this is the second coming of Elvis, but this show is sure to knock you to your knees, not to mention there is going to be a special appearance by none other than Enrique Fuentes, Queen of the Downtown Fur!

Look for Three Chord Whore to soon be part of the N.L. Belardes blog community. These lovely dark angels of post-punk are going to rant and rave and talk just as radical as any Filthies Gus-guffaw could ever get… it’s going to be fun… see you somewhere tonight.
