A Note from Kevin Briley of Whiskey Galore: The Scottish Games at Stramler Park - by N.L. Belardes

If you're still ignoring one of the best bands in the country, then you need to get off your tail and give Whiskey Galore a listen. One of only a handful of upbeat Irish-American folk bands, Whiskey Galore is Irish to the core with its great folk-based pub tunes, complete with bagpipes and uilleann pipes (Kevin is a master with pipes in hand, a rarity...)

Here's a note from Kevin on their recent appearance at the Scottish Games:

We played Stramler Park for the Kern County Scottish Highland Games this past Saturday 4/2. In between our 2nd and 3rd sets we jumped up with the "wicked tinkers," and L.A. band. We all played played drums while their piper played. Pretty cool when you have 6 people covering all percussive elements of an irish jig!

For our 3rd show we threw our last set list out the window. Completely. We started with "Derry" and then went to some irish reels. We took three requests in the middle of the list to let the audience call the shots. The audience wanted "belfast mill,"
"drunken sailor," and we did "pumpkin's fancy" for our good friend Sheryl Macauley.

With all of the bagpipes around it was interesting that the crowd wanted songs... what a cool feeling to have people ask for our sets when they could hear anything else... Good to know we've made someone's day!

We did several encores despite the fact that i am STILL not feeling on top of my game with my lungs. We ended up selling a lot of albums and T-shirts. That means we connected with a lot of people...
