*Updated: Start making friends in Fresno to help build a 'Valley Scene' - by N.L. Belardes
Here’s an idea, why don’t you bands on myspace start linking up to this experimental band called Variation. Mark Harris of Abundant Entertainment would love for the connection to take place, so would Matt Schwartz of The Local Noise, and so would Frankie D. of KFSR. If that isn’t enough, take a look at this Fresno gig going down on April 30...
Fresno Family Day is being held at Kuppa Joe's in Fresno (First & Dakota) on Saturday, April 30, 12-6pm. They are planning on having the Dalloways, Same Shape, Fissure (Nor Cal), Variation, local gospel groups... there's going to be great talent in a great show.
Don’t stop there. Let’s all start getting educated to the Fresno music scene. thelocalnoise.com and fresnofamous.com are two great sites on the Fresno Indie scene happenings. Find out what’s happening; start writing bands; start making friends. The sooner Bakersfield links up to another exploding music scene, the sooner Bakersfield’s Indie scene is going to grow by leaps and bounds. These guys in Fresno want to help you and vice versa. They have a radio station and print and we have a good foothold on the online print medium. Let’s make it work... but it does take hard work... just so you know: the fans in Fresno do come out to watch shows... and bands get paid. Don't all Bakersfield bands deserved to get paid?
There is a lazy mentality here that bands should play for free. They shouldn't. If the right Indie venue opens up, then the trend will be set... heck, every band got paid at Narduccis on Saturday night. It's not selling out. It's called survival, and being rewarded for hard work.
