The Wisdom of James - by N.L. Belardes
James of the band Norfolk clearly takes the road of wisdom in his current blog regarding the dramatic turn of events in the Bakersfield music scene. He shouts out his thoughts in reaction to Nate Berg stories and the murder downtown. He expresses fears in a gloomy downtown, a downtown scene that may have too much focus on boarded up shops, painted windows and the ghosts of lives lost; yet he hints at the hope of a blossoming scene of arts: music and theatre. But is it really so gloomy? This weekend will be the first test to see if people can get out and watch shows without being caught up in the drama of punk fights, murder, recent fires, and the music schisms. Perhaps James is right... this is a moment where everyone takes a deep breath and forges onward... because Friday night the new sounds of 'Rural Rock Punk' meet the scintillating tones of the 'Quiet is the New Loud' Movement... the scene will come together Saturday in a parking lot festival of the arts... and then splinter into various shows at venues like the Silver Fox, the Harvey Auditorium, and Narducci's. This is the Bakersfield Arts and Music scene... where it's headed, no one knows...
