Karma is back, Preston smashes an amp, Gramercy on fire, Outline jams, and N.L. in a skeleton suit - By N.L. Belardes

It all happened just before Halloween. I was hanging out at the MWP as the ghost of Ted Frotts, selling a few books, snapping a few photos, and proudly showing off the cover of Más magazine. Matildakay was helping out and Jesse Rivera came out of hibernation to see his favorite band, Karmahitlist. He posted about that night days ago... alas is the king of Bakersfield scene writing back to join us?

I had just seen Rocket perform when Outline hit the stage. The girls from Rocket all danced as I sat in a little Noveltown booth waving my skeleton arms in the air. These LA guys were intense and show-stopping... I love when I hear a band that catches people off guard and makes them wander over for a listen...

Gramercy Riff was on fire as usual. Joel bought a book and promised a 'review'. I was already sweating in the skeleton costume, now doubly so... would he like it? One of the other members of the band, Chris, his girlfriend, Tara bought a book too... I don't think I experienced Gramcery since last making my way down into the Pizza-a-go-go basement...

Yes, Rocky Nash was in the house. There are several major points of interest here. Rocky Nash played percussion in a show-stopping moment that saw her really getting into what seemed to be a new phase of interactive music for her band. I was digging it and so was everyone else in the MWP...

Of course that wasn't all; Rocky ripped into her Tori Amos tribute as well as one of my favorites, "Blame Me". But then she tore into their hockey song for the upcoming CD, Growing Up Fighting: Bakersfield Hockey Vol. 1. Oh yes, "Bobblehead" rocked...!

And still, that wasn't all as Preston Nash had some technical difficulties with his amp that escalated throughout the set. You know where this is going. At the end of Rocky's final song he smashed his amp with his axe-like bass swinging wildly over his head. This was a true rock-and-roll moment: instrument on amp violence...

No longer Karmacrunchlist with Smashtastic at helm, Karmahitlist was back with a Seantastic vengeance. Sean sang with intensity and Jim ripped at his guitar. "We haven't practiced in months!" Sean yelled. But I couldn't tell. Heck, I'm just a novelist. How could I tell if they were messing up? Ha! They didn't. Sean jumped on the speakers, paraded around in his Iggy-Jagger swagger and I even got some good photos of him (He's difficult to shoot because he won't stand still). Glad they're back...

And oh yeah, who would have thought that when playing six degrees of Cesareo Garasa he would also be unseparable from Silent Bob... Go Cesareo who played drums in two bands, back to back...
