Wandering to Laurin Lee's photo art show - By N.L. Belardes

It was a strange night wandering after work on the night of the Christmas parade to Dagny's. I showed up early for an art show. Rahl, the old bass player for Liars and Thieves, was in the house and he told me he read Lords: Part One and really dug it... I got embarrased and buried my head in the sports section of that rascally paper, The Californian. After all, it was the day after the Stanley Cup was in town and I wanted to see what kind of pics Johhny Harte might have taken...

But then, I had arrived to look at someone elses photos. I put the paper down and wandered the coffee house.

Laurin Lee, the beautiful mother of two handsome kids, used to spend an incredible amount of time photographing the Bakersfield music scene. I have been posting some of her images online as part of a fun mystery archive from the past.

Yet her latest photography leaps from the idea of photographing the antics of local band folk. Her images are exquisitely framed in compositions that take the beauty of the human element juxtaposed with nature and man-made decay as in broken down farms and trash strewn barnyards, or a girl in an old railyard gently holding her skirt to the side... Such beauty in black and white imagery is a treat to peer into and even collect.

You can see her photos for the next few weeks at Dagny's as well her mom, Andrea's paintings. It's a mother/daughter teamed show and you must go and peruse these fine works of art. Buy one if you're interested. I believe the show runs through to the 22nd of December...
