Letter from Roger Mathey

A man I know was diagnosed with a life threatening illness a few months ago. Cancer. You know the kind of cancer they can operate on? That isn't the type he has.

A friend told me yesterday she saw him as he was on his way to the hospital. And that his life is now measured in days.

Thos eo foyu who know me now I've been dealing with a lot of illness and death around me of late. Most of that has revolved around older people. I've been ready for my dad's possible death for some time. His recent surgery was more grueling for me due to his suffering, not the nature of it. But he is 70. Two weeks ago my parents had a friend who died who was 71. One of my favorite persons around the theatre died a month ago but he was old as well. That happens.

This other man is young. In his 30's.

His name is Kevan Klawitter.

I don't know if you know him. I don't know that well, but I have seen the work he does. He had a passion for theatre. A passion I share.

He has been doing theatre in Bakersfield for some time now, always seeking to push the envelope, always trying to be innovative. He brought "The Rocky Horror Show" to BCT and it kicked ass. Shock and awe is what he is about.

He exemplified what I love about the art. A man pushing the boundries and then pushing them some more.

I hate to know that he is suffering.

But perhaps everyone can visit him and show him some love and maybe make that suffering a little less.

All I know is that he is at San Joaquin Hospital.

And that his life is measured in days right now.

But his spirit is immeasurable.

Peace.

love and prayers go out to that young man... i know it's not easy to stay positive in these kinds of situations, but that's the best attitude to have at this time.

He's located on the 4th floor, room 416. Please go visit, he shouldn't be alone one second.
