The Bakersfield anti-HR4437 immigration rally cometh - By N.L. Belardes
Normally I don't get political on my blog.
But why not now and then? This is America, right? Support what you believe.
What do you believe? HR4437 is a multi-ethnic issue. We're in a valley of many Latinos. So carry an American flag if you support the rally, or whatever ethnicity you represent... Irish, Polish, Filipino, Japanese, Russian, Burmese... I have strong ties to this, so I am going.

I understand the concern and closeness of this issue to the Mexican community- I'm the child of an immigrant from Cuba. I understand how great the United States is, and how many Mexicans would want to leave their home to seek opportunities that would advance their lifestyle and position. At the same time, the situation is very troubling. Not only is the issue of safety from the immigration terrorists to the US under the proverbial radar troubling, but so is the safety of those Mexican immigrants who come into the country illegally. It's a dangerous travel over deserts, and people who seek out help from the illegal traffickers run the risk of being caught, killed, or held ransom in the US. I wonder, Nick, if the efforts of everyone would not be better put on improving Mexico. We have pride in our countries of origin. Mexico is a beautiful country, that to my knowledge suffers from a poor economy and some unsavory people in the government. Why not take the time, effort and resources one would use to put up a wall or fight the unpopular ideas of others and put it towards making Mexico a better place to live. I think we wouldn't see as many people coming to the US illegally, and in turn we would make a great country a better place to live.
Just my two cents.
Revamp Mexico. As rich in resources as the country is, they should be more of a dominant force in world trade. However, their gov't is corrupt.
Anything we did to help improve their situation, would undoubtedly fall into the wallet of a very unconvincing Pres. Fox.
Instead of him encouraging his people to flee their motherland, he ought to use a little of his juice to help his people out.
With that said, we're better off building the wall... It might save some lives, and we already know Mexico will never take the initiative needed to live up to it's capabilities.
Sad but true.
Mexico needs to take care of its own poeple and stop encouraging other to take care of thier problems, as a frequent visitor of mexico for surfing trips, the place is a shit hole. Its full of thieves, drug accdicts and convicted fellons, 29% of all inmates are illgeal, weather it be mexican or any other culture. We need to stop this invasion and protect our country. Immagration is killing our system. I wont be attending the rally, it will serve no purpose to legislators.
Someone is influencing lawmakers
Maybe blame it on Senators who WANT to be re-elected. CNN news...
Modernizing and creating opportunities in third world countries is key, I agree. Though folks will always want to come to America...
China has interesting developments... and maybe good surfing!
I'll be there. No Hagas Hate...
If I was poor and in need, I'd find a way to go where the food is. If you wouldn't, that's your choice. Go ahead and starve....
Well no matter how dangerous or difficult the trip across the Sonora Desert may be, or how difficult a life one will have once they arrive here, the truth is that conditions are far worse in Mexico. Matt is correct: Go to where the bread is.
The issue of protecting our country from Mexican immigrants is completely ridiculous. How many Mexican Terrorists have there ever been? Pancho Villa raided a few Amercican towns during the Mexican Revolution. Is this kind of "terrorist" we fear so much? Maybe we should build a wall around the states where Timothy McVey and Theodore Kacznyski were born.
I don't think giving somebody "choro" for not fully cooking the "carne asada" at the "lonchera" is a terrorist crime and threat to National Security.
What should be done is give those people who are here to work and have better lives for themselves and their children, the opportunity to become American Citizens; I will be teaching Citizenship classes as soon as I knock down all this damn hoop jumping in the credentials program. W e also need to enforce border security to assure than any future humans that want to come to America for a chance at a better life, do so by following the necessary steps towards U.S. Citizenship. And, as mentioned earlier by another writer, there needs to be a plan implemented to recover Mexico's economy. Sounds easy as heck to say, but the reality is....
Another point: next time you drive off a freeway off-ramp note this: Who is trying to sell you oranges, and who is holding up a cardboard sign. One of these persons is trying to make a descent living wage the best way he can, while the other is simply asking for a free ride.
I got too much to say, so I'll just end it here...for now. "But make no mistake my friend, I will return, just like a moth to a flame."
I couldn't go to sleep until I voiced my final thought...I am a hardcore Mexican Nationalist, a Mexican Historian, and a Marxist. One issue that I will agree with my political Confederate Flag waving counterparts is that Mexicans and other Nationals should "check" their National Flags while marching and protesting. We are attempting to show how proud we can be of becoming American Citizens. This is a time to embrace the Red, White, and Blue, not denounce it.
Now that being said, all you hypocritical Confederate Flag wavers need to do the same. The Confederacy broke away from the Union and attempted to create a separate country. You are not living in the "Confederate States of America", this is the “United States of America.” Get it right. Just like you find it disrespectful to have people wave the Mexican Flag, you are also being disrespectful by waving a Condefedarate Flag.
