Box Jumper and the 28s at the Sardine Can - By N.L. Belardes

I saw Kevin Briley from Whiskey Galore at Sandrini’s Friday night. We talked about his band putting together another CD and how Kevin’s band just played at the Las Vegas Fremont Street Experience on St. Patrick’s Day.

I had already arrived and left. I was hungry and there were no tables, so I figured it was as good a chance as any to get some food. When I got back, Kevin and I talked about him being a lawyer in the DA’s office and how he fights for what’s right. Always a good motto.

While we talked Order 66 had already performed. The 28s were rocking the house with their Screeching Weasel sounding tunes. I was so surprised recently when realizing how much the 28s sound like Screeching Weasel. It’s really worth checking out if you’re a fan of hardcore punk/Screeching Weasels. Box Jumper was up next.

Box Jumper had a few technical issues, and while they got their sound fixed I got claustrophobic. I hear that later in the night Kenny Mount dubbed Sandrini’s, “Sardini’s” for being such a packed venue. “I almost passed out, Nick,” Kenny said in a phone call the next day. Box Jumper sounded great. Rob Shock and Jason are a perfectly energetic punk team. I didn't stay long though to hear their entire set.

People who know me understand that I don’t like packed crowds. I couldn’t breathe, so I left Sandrini’s, but not before getting a great photo of the drunken ska king having a little fun at the bouncer’s expense.

*One final note. Sandrini's is a great bar, has excellent food, but I just don't like crowds. I'm wimpy like that. So the Sardine Can reference is all in good fun...

I like that fact that you see everything in category with labels, such an intuitive Historian.

Thanks for the snappy-shotties, showing up, and having us on your blogsite. We tried recording our set but the video camera wasn't working. :-(

It was a good shot in the arm for our punk scene. It's nice to see the crowds growing for local bands. For us, it was a reunion show, 5 years, a milestone because I hadn't planned on playing in The Filthies for this long. After losing Jeff Jackson I didn't think we would find someone who would melt into the band, then along came Gus. Pretty good find! Perfect find really. I remember our first three shows at the venue when it was called Lucky's. We sold them out of beer and whiskey twice....ah the days! It was nice sharing the night with Box Jumper and the 28's, we look forward to more flyers with their names on em. My sister flew from North Carolina and stayed for the week and saw her brothers "little punk band" for the first time. For us, there were no invitaions, no phone calls, just friends showing up and celebrating an important night with us. Bad Religion was playing down the street, but it didn't effect the show like we thought it would. It was a historic night for us with good friends sharing the stage and our best friends right there in front of it.

Actually, it was an anniversary show not a reunion. What? It's early in the morning.

Congrats with the 5 year anniversary!

Kenny, you guys tore it up on stage like always man. I was hesitant about getting on stage and singing Dramarama's "Anything" with you on stage but I noticed you were singing the chorus in low key so I jumped in and sang it in higher key. I thought it would sound good.

We'll definitely play more shows together often in the near future.

It was soooo crowded in Sandrini's I was smashed against a wall and still being trampled! I would have liked to stay for the Filthies show, but the crowd was getting to me too.

Sounds like the Filthies rocked! It was a good show for them and I'm glad there was a larger crowd than normal in the music scene.
