A Writer in Yosemite, Part Eight: Photo Essay 2 - By N.L. Belardes

In the workshop, Writing the region: travel writing and beyond, I listened to Malcolm Margolin talk about a travel narrative created in the likeness of old Japanese journey scrolls/. "You won't find them at Barnes & Noble," he said.

As the Keynote speaker, T. Jefferson Parker told an incredible tale of how he was discovered... too much to tell in this brief photo essay. Let's just say he sold a book on a napkin...

Great photos!! So many memorable moments that I will never forget!
Thanks for capturing it all on film.
LOVE the picture of matildakay. You look soooo proud girl! As you should be! You're an awesome writer! I can't wait till you finish and publish your book! I know it's going to be AWESOME. I know that word gets overused. But in this case it just fits.
I want to read your novel when it's done Matildakay.
And Nick, her name is Brandi. I don't think I ever got the opportunity to introduce you. She had an excellent time at the conference as well.
Norma, Christopher, you all are too sweet...
Yeah, Matildakay, finish your book already. That's what you always tell me... Brandi--got it...! Christopher and I should have had more conversations... and he should have jumped onto the pirate table and started belting out Insect songs...
None of these people look like pirates...and they don't have any cool pirate hats on...but thats ok, cause they look like they know how to have a grrrrrrreat time!, just like pirates so...
(great coverage, wish I was there!)
i love this photo essay... so much fun and full of color.
matildakay, HOT HOT HOT! i'm so proud of you, girl!
I love when NL throws links at us. I just clicked on it and loved the sound of his fellow pirate's music!
Another cool photo essay, n.l. You really are great. I love the way you intermingled the black and white photos with the color. Wonderful work.
Connie really was totally flipped out about her win in the novel division. We all hung out together for dinner and beyond, and she flew all evening. We all did. We love her, and are so proud of her.
Thanks for the compliment. I'm really happy for Connie...
So am I.
Anne Hawkins didn't even wait to hear Connie's pitch. When she saw Connie's name tag, that powerful agent who can cause anyone's knees to shake said she already loved Lucky Shot, and could Connie send 50 pages.
We all knew Connie had won when she told us about her one-on-one success story. Our only surprise was that her two best online writing buddies were 2nd and 3rd.
Wow. That's amazing. It certainly takes the stress out of the one on one. From my experience, though Anne can appear intimidating, she is actually a really nice person.
Great photos, Nicky Bird. Can we use them on our site--with proper credit, of course?
Sure thing. SquawwwWWWWK!
Oh! You guys are too kinky.
Hey Nick! I loved meeting you at Yosemite. The pictures are great. I read your other posts about the conference. Fabulous job. Great idea. Keep 'em coming.
We all had a great time at Yosemite this year. Last year I came as a new writer and didn't know very many people, but Bonnie, and Sheree, and Hazel all made me feel welcome.
This year we had a gang from Bonnie's online writing class. After the awards we all lined up with Bonnie. I hope someone snapped that photo - there had to be about 7 or 8 of us. All day Thursday through Sunday we just laughed ourselves silly.
Thanks, NICK, for these great pictures and this FAB Yosemite blog. Hope to see you again next year.
Kinky bird talk
Not you, Connie. Your comment was great... thanks for such kind words...
Hummm. Kinky bird talk. You must be into your parrot, n.l. pirate. Remember, dead birds tell no tails. LOL
Hey I know a joke that involves a pirate, a parrot, a captain, and a MARBLE. If I ever meet any of you... please remind me to tell it to you. "CAPITAN CANICAS".
