California Living Museum lightasmic - By N.L. Belardes

The lights of Lightasmic? Well, there were a lot of them. The cost? Way too much to get in the door. The beautiful aspect: so-so. The worries: how do all the animals at the zoo cope with the lights, and how are they going to get lights off trees before they choke to death?
My recommendation is that on your journey to see cool Christmas lights you travel to Haagen Oaks, Westchester, then head out to view the lights of CALM from the comfort of your car--hot cocoas in hand. You'll be in awe for a few moments. No need to pay for it. Besides, who wants to wait an hour for a Ferris Wheel ride?
It's definitely a must if out driving around the Bakersfield area looking at holiday decorations... from a distance.

i'm so glad you test things out so i don't have to.
you're my hero, and dang i'm lazy.
last yr we saw this as well as to the light show at griffith park in smellay, and i think the bako show was a lot better. i worried about the animals/trees, too, but was quickly agoggle over the shiny colorful corny blinking prettiness of it all. :) it was freezing cold that eve, but i was left with lovely memories and an appreciation for why the kid who created the light show beat me in the beautyful bako awards when we both were nominated way back when! he deserved it! also, my experience is that calm usually's pretty conscientious about their plant & animal life, so i guess i gotta think they've thought thru possible negative impaction on the living elements & safeguarded them... if not, this is a good point, nick, to keep bringing up so that it gets considered.
happy holiday to all :)
I agree, the CALM folks I have met through the years have been eco-friendly...
It was festive, but expensive when you have a family of more than three...
I was going to go after I read about it on bakotopia.com a while back and my sister told me not to go. She took her son and she said if it weren't for her acting silly and entertaining him it would have probably been a bust. Plus it was kind of expensive. Those type of things are fun only if you go with the attitude of hurry up and wait.
We once went into a Clovis neigborhood well known for their lights and decorations. They stand outside their homes and collect money and clothing for the Povarello house (I forget the name of the neighboorhood)
But anyways... traffic was so backed up and pedestrians were everywhere, crossing in front of vehicle with no care in the world. It took forever to drive through. Although I have to admit the kids loved it. I don't think I'd do it again.
Yes, I know. I'm a scrooge like that.
The lights were really pretty and since I had never been out to see the lightasmic before, I'm glad I saw it. But yeah... I think it was a little high in price considering you just walk around and look at lights. :)
Cool photo! Thanks for letting me tag along...
so, a tree is a living Earth thing...so how do they feel?...once a year they get strangled by electrically charged wires, with hot bulbs on them...then the humans gather round for the bulbs and not them...I wonder if the trees are plotting something big against us...Merry Christmas...
