Help choose winner for Noveltown's Cinema of the Lords film contest - By N.L. Belardes
Recently I entertained Matt Munoz at my pad with a sneak peak at the documentary Hectic Films and I have been working on titled, "Chronicle of the Lords". Since he was interviewed for the film, why not show him the raw edits? He dug it so much that he wrote a mini review after BIFF 2.0 and Cinema of the Lords. Check it out:
Matt's mini subliminal review:
Although I was gigging all weekend, (see Lords) Nick called me up to check out the Lords documentary with Matildakay and his punk rock offspring, before its BIFF debut (see Lords.)
I didn't realize it was going to be put together so quickly. These Hectic Films dudes are good! I get nervous watching (see Lords) myself on film, so I was pretty nervous about checking (see Lords) it out. More than a dozen, "Oh shits," went through my head all the way to Nick's place.
As soon as Nick plopped it into the player, all of my fright flew out the window. I felt (see Lords) like a kid watching Star Wars for the first time.
I was amazed at how beautifully indie it looked! The graininess and drunken Orson Wells style narration made (see Lords) me laugh. The laughter coming from how f'ng cool it was. I'm not a filmmaker, but I am a hardcore indie film fan, and this (see Lords) is about as pure as it gets.
I know it was a rough draft of the film, so I (see Lords) can't wait to see the completed work. If you notice during my interview in the film, the mere mention of "Lords," drew curious (see Lords) people near us immediately. I even managed to keep my composure as a cooky lady behind the film crew made (see Lords) faces.
Much like one of my all-time favorite's, "The Blair Witch Project," Noveltown and Hectic's (see Lords) "Lords" doc., is filled with enough creepiness to keep your imagination filled with your own theories about the case. A must see for (see Lords) indie film freaks!
Mad props to the creative minds (see Lords) who made it happen (and not just cuz' I'm in it..hehe)
See Lords.

But that wasn't all that was show at Noveltown's Cinema of the Lords at BIFF 2.0. Landen Belardes had a creepy short film from a kid's perspective titled, "Escape from the Lords." But he's not eligible for the prize cash. Neither is Dane B. His computer crashed about 600 times, and so he hasn't submitted his cool entry yet. Expect his to be shown at the next BIFF. The three YouTube films posted here are eligible. Now please, add your two cents. Who do you think should win and why?
Now, myself, Roger Mathey and Matt Munoz are going to watch these films and argue who the winner is after we read what you have to say!

I say hecticfilms.com!
I just like their style..
:)
Greg Goodsells is interesting.
I love the music on Matt Keiley's film.
But for me Hectic Films is the best of the three. Having read the book, it just brought it to life for me.
The scene was disturbing to watch on film. But that's how great of a job I think they did. It was just a powerful scene all around.
Hectic Films :)
I like it, plus the music was good. They did a great job portraying anger and fear. So hectic all the way.
Hectic films was great. I love the music. They portrayed anger and fear well and the effects were good. So hectic all the way. :)

Wow! This is a hard decision! There are things and elements I like about all three films. I can't pick just one winner yet... I need to watch many more times, and comtemplate. Ultimately I'm glad the final decision isn't mine. :)
Whoo-hoo! Films in Bakersfield about Bakersfield I LOVE IT.
I have to vote for HecticFilms because those guys are so cute. Oh, yeah ... and I guess their film is pretty kick-ass, too.
;)
I thought that all three where good.
If i had to narrow it down, i would say the Hectic Films video is my favorite. I like the cartoon type of style it has, almost like sin city. They get my vote.
Thanks, Ryan
i came here for rickey but....for some one who has not read the book and had no idea what really happend i now kinda know because of matts film. rickey and matt both made it good and interesting but mats was clear and i like that
Hectic Films all the way. They put in the most effort. A for effort...and awesomeness.
I guess my film just isn't badass enough.
Hey Matt, your film is bad ass. I dig it! Besides, Matt, Roger and I will be the judges... muahahahaha!
I'm so nervous.
I didnt care for the dark shadow subtitles of greg's video, Matt's video is a little long at the beginning with the guy walking, and hectic had more info of what the lords is all about.
Hectic films for me.
Thanks, Randa
Hey Matt Riley. Please redo your comment, but by being nicer. :)
Thanks,
-n.l.
This competition reminds me of a fairy tale i once read: The Three Little Film Makers.......
Greg Goodsells Lord's Porridge was too hot...it was a really good idea, but it felt too chopped up and didn't flow that well.....
Matt Keiley's Lord's Porridge was too cold...I felt like he could have done more...I've seen his other films and I anticipated he would show us a really unique point of view.....
Hectic Films' Lord's Porridge was JUST RIGHT ( at least for me)...I think they brought a really unique view to the table.....their version seemed to have the biggest affect on the audience, and that just shows how good these guys really are....
I hope my opinion does not offend.....in the end, i'm just happy to see film makers in bakersfield actually doing something productive!!!! thanks to all you guys for giving me something to watch!!!
Amandark: great comment.
I wasn't offended by Matt Riley. Just needed to be a little nicer is all. It's all coolio.
Hectic Films all the way! Very well created!
hectic films all the way!
I Prefer Hectic Films.
Hectic films all the way..... bada$$
Cory J.
Hectic Films was my favorite
I LOVE YOU GUYS, YOU ROCK!
HECTIC FILMS ROCKS!
Maybe there could be a prize for all entries here, like a 1st,2nd,3rd... Each had unique elements and artistic flare! Really enjoyed them, wish I had been at the show dangnammit!
My vote is for Hectic Films. Those guys do such a great job.
I enjoyed all three films but I LOVED Hectic Films the best!!! They should win!!!! PS: they also have a cool name!
The Hectic Films video was my favorite. The other two are decent, but clearly the Hectic one is the most profound. The effects and acting are great, those guys have a future.
The beginning of the Kieley film drags on, but I agree the Eliot Smith music is an excellent choice. Great acting as well.
Thanks everyone!
HECTIC FILMS!!!!
n.l. is in on it with hectic films...so its a conspiracy in itself and why should people vote if there are judges? plus keiley is the bomb...some would go as far as saying he is the bomb.com....
keiley!! of the matt persuasion the best by far. belardes and hectic films are in on it together i say.
I hate to say it, but Matt Keiley never paid the entry fee! peace!
Anonymous... Please don't try to dis us because we are getting a lot of votes.. We are not "in it" with N.L. Belardes. We help other people out and even helped out both of the people that were in the contest against us.
