Meeting Richard Bramer of the new Blackboard newspaper - By N.L. Belardes

Richard Bramer after newspaper meeting at Dagny's

Dagny's coffeehouse in Bakersfield is where the big print media hang out and talk shop. I see Californian folks there all the time, including John Harte who I saw today. We shook hands as usual and talked a little roller hockey talk for old times sake.

Yet I wasn't at Dagny's to spy on Californian staff or to just have a cup of Jasmine tea. I went to Dagny's to listen in on The Blackboard's first meeting between Richard Bramer and potential contributors.

Bramer is starting up a new Blackboard that hopes to bring a few changes, including the print format. You'll have to contact him to see if he'll tell you the details. He does hope to get the old archives up and running, but that depends on Jason Ricketts. "I'm on the lookout for Ricketts," Bramer said during the meeting. "We need to contact Jason to see if he'll turn over the old archives to the new Blackboard."

Whether Ricketts will turn over the old archives is unknown as he couldn't be reached. Anyone who knows how to get a hold of Ricketts is encouraged to reach Richard Bramer at dirtyshirt@sbcglobal.net.

I overheard some good talk about the direction of the new Blackboard and I'm anxious to see if all the excitement comes to fruition: political articles, academic articles, a calendar, and a whole lot more.

i'm encouraged that your readers seem to be excited about the blackboard's return... :) good for richard bramer, picking up the baton, and i personally thank him for it... for the local "underground" community, the blackboard and the empty space have been the longest-lasting presences, and the space, too, is non- or not-for-profit (i can't remember which). i guess this is the only way to go around here if you're not mainstream, so thank goodness for such status! i hope it enables richard to publish for a long long time, and who knows... in a few years, maybe we'll have our own version of the weekly or chronicle or guardian... wouldn't that be something????

Strong writing, academic writing, strong organization and blog integration... could really grow... Richard really needs writers. I hope he can woo some from the college atmosphere.

Sounds like Richard has a vision for the Blackboard that is really cool... I wish him the best in his endeavors with the Blackboard and hope he gets the writers he needs!
