Tripline, the Briggs, The Living End at Bakersfield's The Dome - By N.L. Belardes
What a great night at Bakersfield's The Dome. There was a Christmas parade nearby that made negotiating to pick up the Ska King of Mento Buru and Bakotopia a bit difficult. I had to resort to seedy underground driving tactics (a mild form of road rage) to get around the million police roadblocks (you'd think the Prez was back in town).
Homeboy Mateo was hung over from his big media XMAS party, but I insisted on dragging his ass to see some punk rock. He was still working on Bakotopia/MAS something or other, but he jumped in my retro 80s Beamer with the "God Bless America" license plate, and we negotiated our way to the Dome.
There I saw lots of folks. Fatt Katt messed with me by calling my phone and watching me look like an idiot. I stared and didn't answer as I tried to figure out who was calling me. Fatt Katt laughed. I saw Gus McFuss, formerly of The Filthies, the boys in Tripline, BIG RAY who is the coolest skaliscious cat of the Latinos you could ever meet. That kid is just in touch with music.
I even met "Doc" and Logan Molen, Vice Prez of Interactive Media at the Bakersfield Californian. Logan introduced me to Doc as "Bakersfield's top blogger". What? I was blown away! Logan is a hockey freak like me (only he still plays) and after such cool words I spoke with Doc about literature. You couldn't ask for a better conversation; Doc speaking eloquently with his big red-haired chin hair poking out, and talking about William Saroyan...
The music itself was incredible. Bakersfield's Tripline got into their punk rock riffs, while LA's The Briggs and Australia's epic punk band, The Living End brought the house into a moshing frenzy.
