Prince, The Police, Skakersfield... - By N.L. Belardes
Had a great time last night hanging out at the Bakersfield High Talent Show with MAS, Bakotopia, Dirty Spanglish, and all the great acts that performed. Still not sure if I'm writing an article or if the Ska King of Skakersfield is. In the meantime, The Police are on tour and I caught wind of a Whiskey-A-Go-Go show coming up this Monday. Talk about a show with classic potential...
In other news. I commented on an LA Times blog article titled, "Prince: Phallic or Religious" yesterday. Thought I'd share the link since it was about the Prince Superbowl halftime.
The Movable Buffet blog out of Las Vegas wrote:
I can not believe a controversy has erupted over the phallic symbolism of Rio headliner Prince's guitar solo during his Super Bowl Halfime show. There is an AP article outlining the controversy. Let me let you in on a more likely subtle message Prince put into his performance: an explicit nod to his reported Jehovah's Witness faith. Remember the Dylan cover I mentioned yesterday in writing about the halftime show. I neglected to mention the song Prince chose: "All Along the Watchtower." Dylan put that song on John Wesley Harding an acoustic disc thick in religious imagery(the song before it on the disc is "I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine"). Jimi Hendrix famously heard Dylan's song and decided to record it, and that is the version most people know.

It was the Mammy style doorag I found weird (right off a vintage box of pancake mix). On the other hand I thought the shadow looked more like a demonic spear tail curling around then a dick.
But he played great and I'm not even that big a Prince fan.
Prince is HOT, HOT, HOT! A master musician... Aye! People are just looking for controversy anywhere... sheesh!
As for The Police, wow! That'll be something to catch...
Whiskey a Go Go is in Hollywood.
I want to have that short little fucker's love child. He is HOTT. I don't care how tiny he is. The do-rag was to protect his hair from the rain. He could have had a shower cap on and he'd still be hot in my book!
If I ever wore a shower cap in public I'd be dragged to the looney bin.
